SPF Setup for Secure Email Sending

Is your email communication secure? An SPF setup (Sender Policy Framework) in your DNS settings is essential. It ensures only authorized IP addresses can send emails from your domain. This protects against spoofing and unauthorized use of your email address.

A proper SPF setup is a vital step in securing your emails. In this guide, we’ll walk you through adding an SPF record to your domain’s DNS settings. You’ll also learn how to configure KlickTipp properly as part of your SPF setup. Follow these steps to enhance your email security. Ensure reliable communication with your recipients.

What is an SPF Record Used For?

SPF prevents sender email addresses from being spoofed. Only authorized IP addresses are allowed to send emails, protecting your domain from spam.

How Is the SPF Entry Set?

As the domain owner, you need to add a record in your host’s DNS settings. This defines which addresses are authorized to send emails through the domain.

You have the following options:

1. An SPF Record Already Exists in the DNS settings

In this case, just add the following line to the end of the existing record, just before -all or ~all:

a mx include:spf.strold.io
Kopieren

2. No SPF Entry Exists in the DNS Settings Yet

In this case, add the following to the DNS settings:

YOURDOMAIN.com. 3600 IN TXT "v=spf1 include:spf.strold.io ~all"
Kopieren

Create a new email sending address under → My AccountUser Account.

A message will appear at the top of the page, for example:

Create a TXT record for YOURDOMAIN.com that includes the SPF definition for spf.strold.io.

If you don’t have an SPF definition for your domain yet, please add the following TXT record to your domain:

YOURDOMAIN.com. 3600 IN TXT "v=spf1 include .strold.io ~all"

If you already have an SPF definition for your domain, add "include .strold.io", for example:

YOURDOMAIN.com. 3600 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:1.2.3.4 ip4:5.6.7.8 include .strold.io ~all"

or:

KlickTipp cannot send emails with this email address, as this is prohibited by the SPF for YOURDOMAIN.com.

Relevant SPF line:

YOURDOMAIN.com. 3600 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:18.196.136.27 ip4:62.138.117.1 ip4:46.22.40.254 ip4:185.45.16.170 include.protection.outlook.com include.de.umantis.com -all"

In the first case, you need to create a new SPF record. In the second case, you add to an existing record.

Both actions are done in the DNS settings of your server, which you can access in your hosting provider’s customer area. If you have questions or issues, you can contact your host’s support team for help. Once the settings are configured correctly, KlickTipp will be able to send emails from your sending address.
