Wondering how to create emails and design content in KlickTipp? In this post, we’ll walk you through using the Email Builder to craft, style, and personalize your messages.
Using the Email Builder in KlickTipp
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In the menu, click on → Campaigns → Emails / SMS → New Campaign Email or → Campaigns → Newsletter → New Email Newsletter.
- Name the email.
- Select → Email Builder and click on → Create Campaign Email or → Create Newsletter.
- Make the required settings for email addresses. Select a signature and write a preheader. You can make further settings if required.
- You can also copy these settings automatically from a previously created email. In the → Copy Settings from another Email field, enter the name of the email and select it.
- Click on → Save and continue.
- Select a template.
Email Builder - Overview
In the Email Builder, you can customize any template to suit your preferences. The following options are available in the editor:
- Settings: Click this button to access the email settings.
- Preview: Displays how your email will appear to the recipient.
- Grid: Click to show a visual aid for the email layout.
- Templates: Copy content from the Email Builder or import complete templates.
- Delete All: Remove all content from the email. Note: This action is irreversible.
- Release: Prepare the email for sending with KlickTipp. Note: This doesn't send the email immediately.
Did You know?
If you’ve made changes to an email, click the → Release button again. Otherwise, the current status will only be saved in the editor.
The Design Area
With the exception of the → Delete all command, you can undo any of your steps.
You can use the tools at the bottom left of the screen for this purpose, e.g. select specific points in your editing process using the clock icon.
Each step is auto-saved, and clicking on one restores the layout to how it was at that time. Alternatively, you can click on the forward and backward buttons with the arrow icon.
Menu item → Contents
You can add various blocks to your email here. Click and hold the mouse button to drag the desired block to your preferred position in the email content. You can adjust the position later if needed. Different editing options are available for each content type.
Good to Know
The Creative Commons Zero License (CC0) covers the images in our Free Stock Photo Gallery, so you can use them not just in emails but for other purposes as well.
- For text-based content, an editor opens after clicking on the element.
- You will also see advanced properties and options on the right-hand side.
- For content such as text, images, icons etc., you will see the editing options on the right. Here you can change things like text color and line spacing, but also, for example, the inner spacing for images.
Menu item → Line
You’ll find different line layouts there that you can incorporate into your design.
- Clicking outside the email content on the left selects the entire line. You can then move it anywhere within the content by clicking and dragging the cross on the left.
- You can also delete or copy a line. To do this, click either on the trash can or on the copy icon on the right-hand side.
- When you select a row, its row and column properties appear on the right.
- Here you will also find the categories → Backgrounds, → Borders, → Layout, → Dynamic Content, → Map Style and → Column Structure. Under → Backgrounds, you can either set the background color of the entire row or just the content area - i.e. the area in which your content elements are displayed with their column properties.
Menu item → General
You can make general settings here. Select the width of the layout, default font and colors, etc. When you have finished designing your email, you can release the email by clicking the → Release button. You can then send it with KlickTipp.
Use Placeholders
You can insert specific contact information in an email using → Placeholders.
This information comes from the master record and is individually inserted for each contact. For example, the placeholder → %Subscriber% inserts the contact's first name.
If this field is empty in the master record, the placeholder remains blank. You can access all available placeholders via the email builder in the text area.
Important Info
Note that the → Placeholder for the signature must always be included in an email. This ensures KlickTipp can automatically select it as defined in the email settings.
- The placeholders are divided into different categories and sections. There are → Predefined fields and → Additional fields. This section only appears if you have created additional fields.
- Under the menu → Sender details you will find the placeholder → Signature. If you insert this, it accesses the signature defined in the email settings.
Insert Signature via Links
Click on → System Links to view a list of all available system links.
You can insert these into your text by clicking the respective buttons. Add the remaining information for your signature using regular text.
For an overview of the most commonly used → Placeholders, see the article: Insert Placeholders in Emails. You can also use an individual signature in the email instead of the placeholder. You can compose this from several links.
Attachment - Attach Files to an Email
You can send a file attachment via a text link or a button. This has the same effect as an email attachment in your email program.
- To do this, define a text area or a button that you would like to link.
- In the → Content area, you can link your file via → File .
- Click on → Upload, → Import or → Search for license-free photos. Alternatively, you can insert an existing file.
- The URL to the file is automatically entered in the corresponding field. If the contact clicks on the button in the email, the linked file is loaded immediately
Anchor links allow you to jump directly to a specific point in an email. You insert this in the Email Builder via an HTML content module. After clicking the link, you are redirected there.
You Should Know
Not all email clients support anchor links. Therefore, make sure that the recipients can read the newsletter well even without this functionality.
Enter the following code in the content properties:
<a name="Anker-Name"></a><br />
Kopieren
- Instead of → Anchor name, choose an individual name. You will use this later when linking.
- Select the text area from which you want to link to the set anchor. Click on the link icon in the toolbar.
- Add the individual anchor name in the pop-up under → Link type URL. Use the # sign in front of it.
- The text area is now linked. When a recipient clicks on the link, they are taken directly to the desired location.
- Click on → Email templates in the → Campaigns menu.
- Click on → Create new template.
- Enter a name for the template and click → Send.
- Select a template from the KlickTipp templates or from → My emails and click on → Apply.
- You are now in the editing dialog of the Email Builder for the template. You can customize it according to your wishes. Then click on → Release in the top right corner.
- Click on → My templates. The template you have just created will appear in the overview below.
- If you move the mouse cursor over the template tile, two icons will appear. You can use the info icon to display a preview of the template. The other icon with the pencil icon takes you to the editing dialog.
- To use your template with an email that has already been created, click on → Apply.
